Receiving Instructions & Damage Claim Policy

Damages during transit are common when transporting this type of equipment. You must do your part and follow these simple steps and inspect your shipment for damages upon arrival.

Many of our items are very large, bulky and heavy. A delivery driver may need assistance in unloading your units or they can become damaged.

NEVER SIGN FOR ANY PACKAGE BEFORE YOU INSPECT IT. You must look at the packages to see if there is any damage. We recommend that you open each piece regardless of what the exterior of the cartons look like since there can be concealed damage. Once the driver leaves it is too late and it becomes your sole responsibility to file a claim. Call the trucking terminal immediately for instructions.

If the driver will not let you open the packages, then fully inspect the outside of each carton and note any damages to the packaging no matter how small on the bill of lading such as the following: "Driver would not allow inspection prior to signing. Carton Damaged" or note any obvious damages found, the total number of damaged packages and description of the damage such as “hole in side of box #1” or “Box #2 Crushed on the corner with some damage”. Hold aside any damaged parcels for carrier inspector. Ask your delivering driver for local phone number.

If you find any damaged goods upon inspection simply note the item and quantity damaged on the bill of lading while the driver is there. Then notify Barney's at 503-665-4444 at once for a replacement order. You will need to fax your copy of the bill of lading noting the damages to Barney's at (866) 814-6539. Barney's will contact the trucking company for verification and a replacement order will be processed upon verification.

All claims for damages must be made to Barney's within 14 days of delivery. No claims can be processed after that time. Each freight company will have their own terms and restrictions on claims.

IF YOU DO NOT MAKE NOTE OF DAMAGES ON THE DELIVERY TICKET, IT BECOMES YOUR SOLE RESPONSIBILITY TO FILE THE CLAIMS WITH THE CARRIER. A NEW ITEM WILL BE SENT TO YOU BUT AT AN ADDITIONAL CHARGE. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS!

The trucking company is only responsible for taking the freight to the back of their truck. It is your responsibility to take the freight into the building. Your freight charges billed through the Barney's Companies only cover you to this point. If you request inside delivery, there is an additional charge from the trucking company and you are 100% responsible for these charges regardless of the size of your order. It is strongly advised that you ask the trucking company exactly what that inside delivery charge will cover. It usually means inside the door only. Please note that these are not Barney's Inc.'s policies but those of most of the major cargo carriers within the U.S. Your experience may depend entirely upon your individual delivery person. A lot of times these drivers will go above and beyond what they are required to do with a little kindness and professional courtesy.
